Floyd Collins is a haunting, richly lyrical musical inspired by the true story of a Kentucky Cave explorer.
Created by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau, Floyd Collins premiered Off-Broadway in 1996 and quickly developed a devoted following. Inspired by the true story of Floyd Collins, who became trapped in a Kentucky cave in 1925, the musical captures both the homespun humor of Appalachian life and the astonishing media frenzy that surrounded his ordeal. Guettel’s score draws on bluegrass, folk, country, and traditional musical theatre, giving the show an unmistakably American voice.
