2018-19 Season

   Awkward

by Kansas City playwrights

Local Kansas City playwrights have written an original set of one-act plays for the Bell Road Barn Players which were inspired by real, humorous, dramatic -- and yet always awkward -- family Christmas portraits. You’ll never look the same way at your own annual Christmas photos or those from your friends and relatives!

Ladder

by Thornton Wilder

A Bell Road Barn favorite, the story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – pass away.

Plane

by Marc Camoletti, Beverley Cross & Francis Evans

A 1960’s French farce features self-styled Parisian lothario Bernard, who has Italian, German, and American fiancées, each a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down, and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to Paris, and Bernard’s apartment, at the same time.

Newspaper

by Agatha Christie & Leslie Darbon

An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.
